WORKSHOP: Designing with Country: Cultural Design as Driver of Extraordinary Contemporary Places
As a nation we’ve only just started to appreciate the richness and beauty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. The philosophies of Aboriginal society, spirituality, and wellbeing, and the principles of looking after Country, have untapped potential to influence design thinking for architecture and the built environment.
Delivered by Ros Moriarty, co-founder of Australia’s most highly-awarded Indigenous design studio, Balarinji, the session will explore design responses shaped by Country as a cultural driver of contemporary places. Drawing on best-practice design examples, it will discuss how Australia’s foundational Aboriginal narrative offers an original frame of thinking for innovative design responses.
