WORKSHOP: Reaching BIM Maturity: Overcoming Barriers to Digitalisation in the Multi-Residential Sector
08 May 2025
DIGITAL CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS
BIM adoption in Australia has been driven by government initiatives and some sectors of industry mandating the use of BIM on projects, with Road & Rail, Hospital, and Stadium sectors leading the way. However, according to the Construct NSW Digitalisation of Construction Report, the multi-residential sector falls behind with most builders and about half of designers only at the ‘basic’ stage of digital maturity. This session will explore the key drivers and barriers for reaching BIM maturity and ways these drivers can be achieved and the barriers overcome. The session will also look to other countries like the UK, where adopting BIM has contributed to the ‘golden thread’ of information for ‘higher-risk’ apartment buildings, providing a recent example for the multi-residential sector in Australia.
