Construction has officially begun on the Byford Health Hub, marking a major milestone in the expansion of integrated health and community services for Perth’s fast‑growing south‑east corridor.

Local contractor PS Structures has secured the delivery contract, selected for its experience in delivering significant public infrastructure projects across Western Australia.

The project will support local employment during construction and provide essential healthcare capacity for the Shire of Serpentine‑Jarrahdale, one of Australia’s fastest‑growing local government areas, forecast to exceed 70,000 residents by 2031.

Designed as a single entry point for a broad suite of primary, community, social and specialist services, the hub will reduce travel time for residents and streamline access to coordinated care.

A Purpose‑Built Facility Near the Future METRONET Byford Station

Located on Bushman Glade, just south of the upcoming METRONET Byford Station and close to the town centre, the health hub has been developed following consultation with local clinicians, community members and Gnaala Karla Booja, representing Traditional Owners.

WA Premier Roger Cook said the start of construction represented a significant advancement for healthcare in the region.

“The start of construction on the Byford Health Hub is a major step forward for the delivery of a range of integrated health services for the Byford community.

“The hub will allow them to access these services in one convenient location, close to where they live, as well as help to reduce pressure on Armadale Hospital’s emergency department.

“This exciting project is part of my government’s record $4.9 billion health infrastructure investment and our commitment to ensuring all Western Australians can access the healthcare they need, when they need it.”

Ground Floor Services: Primary Care, Pathology and Mental Health

The ground floor will include primary care functions, PathWest pathology, mobile X‑ray treatment bays and plaster/consult rooms. A modern mental health service will provide a reception and waiting area, four consultation rooms and a purpose‑built therapy space for group and family sessions.

A community care navigator service will support residents managing complex needs, connecting them with appropriate treatment pathways, education programs and local supports. Additional meeting and therapy rooms will enable community group use.

First Floor: Outpatient Care, Telehealth and Rehabilitation

The first floor will feature 28 consultation and therapy rooms, supporting WA Health outpatient services and non‑government providers offering in‑person and telehealth care.

A dedicated rehabilitation gym will assist residents—particularly older adults—to maintain mobility and recover from illness or injury closer to home. The floor will also include three child health nursing clinics with family‑friendly waiting zones.

Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey emphasised the project’s alignment with the state’s long‑term health investment.

“This project is an important part of our $4.9 billion health infrastructure program and will allow people in the region to access specialist health and community-based care closer to home.

“The hub will provide families and individuals with greater access to a range of local services that comprehensively support health and social needs and prevent the need to attend hospital.

“This new health hub is just one of the ways the government is investing in community health care and delivering quality infrastructure and services across our state.”

Health Minister Meredith Hammat added that the hub will help relieve demand on the hospital system.

“Not only will this facility support better health outcomes for the wider Byford community, it’s also one of the many initiatives our government is progressing to alleviate pressure on our hospitals and emergency departments.”

Hammat noted that the hub allows residents with non‑urgent health needs to receive local treatment in a community‑based environment, reducing demand on emergency departments such as Armadale Hospital, which receives more than 70,000 presentations annually.

Supporting Growth in Perth’s Expanding Southern Corridor

Local MLA for Darling Range Hugh Jones said the project reflects the government’s commitment to supporting Byford’s rapid growth with essential infrastructure.

The Byford Health Hub is scheduled for completion in 2027, providing improved access to care and contributing to stronger, better‑connected communities across Perth’s southern fringe.
