Inland Rail has marked an important milestone in New South Wales with the completion of major construction on the Stockinbingal to Parkes section of the network. This 170‑kilometre stretch is now the third of twelve project segments ready to support double‑stacked freight operations, moving the wider Beveridge‑to‑Parkes route closer to its expected 2027 delivery.

Construction began in September 2023, with Inland Rail and delivery partner Martinus carrying out a series of upgrades aimed at improving service efficiency, capacity and safety. Works included a 2.2‑kilometre crossing loop and level crossing upgrades at Daroobalgie, lowering the track beneath Wyndham Avenue in Forbes, and altering the Lachlan River Bridge to accommodate taller freight movements. Improvements were also made throughout Forbes Station and regional rail yards to enhance clearances and track alignment.

With the primary construction phase now complete, the project will move into minor works and maintenance over the coming year. Inland Rail’s Acting Chief Operating Officer highlighted the achievement as a major step toward transforming freight transport across Australia, noting the benefits for local communities through training opportunities, job creation and the use of regional suppliers.

Martinus also acknowledged the milestone, recognising the joint effort behind delivering a technically complex project ahead of schedule and with strong cost control. The completed section strengthens a key part of Australia’s future freight network while contributing long‑term economic value across regional New South Wales.
