NSW Country Roads to Receive $80 Million in Funding for Improvement

The New South Wales Government has allocated $80.3 million to enhance the Fixing Country Roads Program, supporting 29 road projects to improve freight connectivity. Funding agreements have been signed for Round 6 projects, enabling councils to access funds for essential freight-related road projects set to commence construction next year.

Under the $543 million Fixing Country Roads Program, 293 projects have already been completed across the state. The initiative aids councils in enhancing strategic freight routes, fostering the safety and strength of regional New South Wales.

The latest funding round expands the total number of projects supported to over 360 across 80 regional councils. With over 72 types of goods transported by road daily, including wheat, rice, livestock, and various products, a robust road network is crucial.

The New South Wales Government is dedicated to supporting the vital freight, logistics, and distribution services that bolster regional New South Wales and generate over 32,000 regional jobs. This sustains economic growth, lowers transportation costs, and ensures efficient goods delivery.

Announced on February 24, 2023, the $80.3 million in funding is allocated to 29 projects across 29 regional Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Round 6 of the Fixing Country Roads Program, including one project from a joint organisation of five regional councils.

Jenny Aitchison, New South Wales Minister for Regional Transportation and Roads, emphasised the importance of a well-connected and safe freight network for daily life, stating that the projects would significantly enhance the movement of goods from regional New South Wales to cities, the country, and worldwide markets.
