NSW Government Allocates $75 Million for Western Sydney Infrastructure Development

The Minns Labour Government has committed $75 million towards the construction of roads, parks, essential infrastructure, and enhanced town centre accessibility to support the development of over 42,000 new residences in Western Sydney.

The allocation from the Special Infrastructure Contributions fund is aimed at bolstering critical infrastructure required for new housing developments, including state and regional roads, primary and secondary schools, as well as emergency, health, and public transportation services.

Addressing a longstanding disparity in infrastructure allocation, particularly in rapidly expanding Western Sydney communities, the Minns Labour Government is fulfilling its promise to provide vital infrastructure for areas experiencing significant housing growth, thereby facilitating the creation of more cohesive and sustainable communities.

The $75 million funding in the sixth round of the Special Infrastructure Contribution grant programme is specifically directed towards councils in targeted local government areas within the Western Sydney Growth Centres, such as Blacktown, Camden, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, The Hills, and Liverpool.

This initiative aligns with the objectives of the National Housing Accord, which aims to deliver 377,000 new well-situated homes across New South Wales by 2029.

Past grant allocations have already supported several crucial projects for burgeoning communities in the region, including:

Over $34 million designated for the Memorial Avenue Road Upgrade in Kellyville, North West Sydney, currently in progress.
Over $20 million allocated towards the construction of new primary and high schools in Edmondson Park. Approvals have been granted for the high school, with construction anticipated to commence shortly.
The impetus behind these initiatives stems from the substantial population growth experienced in Western Sydney, underscoring the urgent need to match this expansion with requisite infrastructure development to sustain and enhance the quality of life for residents in these areas.
