Transformative $1 Billion Development to Revamp Esteemed Sydney Area

One of the five planned structures in a $1 billion student precinct in southeastern Sydney has been inaugurated in what is set to be a transformative venture for the area.
Scape, the developer, stated that the objective was to establish Sydney’s “first university precinct”, extending from Kensington to Kingsford.
Known collectively as KEKI, these five structures will offer accommodation for over 1,600 students within walking distance of the University of NSW and National Institute of Dramatic Art.
Scape, the largest proprietor and operator of student accommodation in Australia, disclosed that the project is valued at around $1 billion and is slated for completion by 2026.
Apart from student housing, the precinct will showcase public art, green areas, and 3,900 sqm of retail and commercial rental space.
The initial building, named Scape Kingsford and situated at 9 Bunnerong Rd, will comprise 381 units for students spread across 15 storeys.
The units will vary in size from 17-30sqm. Rental rates will range from $600-$900 per week, covering utilities, Wi-Fi, and access to programs and events.
Future releases by Scape will include “Lachlan” with 523 units, “Kensington” with 365 units, “Todman” with 203 units, and “Ascot” with 152 units.
CEO Anouk Darling of Scape described the project as a significant milestone for the area and the result of extensive collaboration with the local community.
“Our aim is to create a space where students and local residents feel a strong sense of belonging and pride,” Ms. Darling stated.
“We’ve been working closely with the Kingsford and Kensington communities to ensure that this precinct reflects the needs and aspirations of those who live here."
“It’s our hope that Scape Kingsford, and the entire precinct, will serve as a bridge between living, learning, and leisure, creating a harmonious environment where everyone feels welcome.”
Designed by PTW Architects, the 381 student residences at Scape Kingsford will be fully furnished. The building will feature study areas, a rooftop terrace, and communal spaces.
Simon Parsons, Practice Leader at PTW, articulated that the vision for Scape Kingsford was to craft a space reflecting the vibrancy and character of the nearby Anzac Parade.
