Sylvia Iskander is the Electrical Engineering Discipline Manager at Downer, bringing extensive experience across asset management, through-life support contracts, and major infrastructure projects. She has successfully led multi-disciplinary teams in reliability, design, overhauls, integration, and lifecycle cost modelling.

Previously, Sylvia served as Engineering Manager for Downer’s NSW train fleets, overseeing the Waratah, SGT, and Millennium fleets — ensuring safety, performance, and engineering excellence across complex operational environments.

Beyond her technical expertise, Sylvia is passionate about building inclusive and resilient workplaces, particularly in male-dominated industries. She serves on the Inclusion & Belonging as well as EmpowerHER governance committee, driving initiatives that promote women’s professional growth, mentorship, and representation across Downer.

A dedicated mentor and community volunteer, Sylvia also supports youth development through ministry and outreach programs. Known for her practical leadership and collaborative approach, she continues to champion authentic inclusion and sustainable engineering excellence across the industry.
