Michael Cook

Director, National Suicide Prevention Office, National Mental Health Commission

Michael Cook is a Director with the newly formed National Suicide Prevention Office, a government agency working to bring together and enable governments at all levels, to work collectively to eliminate suicide.

Critical to achieving this mission is promoting the fact that “preventing suicide is everyone’s business”. We all have a role to play in our personal and professional lives to support those around us and help our communities thrive.

Michael has worked in suicide prevention for more than 8 years, drawing on a background in psychology to lead the implementation of Australia’s largest suicide prevention research trial at the Black Dog Institute, and driving systems and cultural changes to achieve better care outcomes in the public mental health system.
