Australia is facing a generational housing shortfall at the same time as the built environment is under mounting pressure to decarbonise. Conventional construction is too slow, too expensive and too carbon-intensive to close either gap. The answer, already proven at scale in Europe, is solid timber modular construction. This workshop makes the full case for mass timber as the delivery method best positioned to meet Australia's housing challenge across built-to-rent, purpose-built student accommodation, affordable housing and aged care. Drawing on ten years of delivered projects and audited performance data, the session works through five dimensions of value that are too often left out of the feasibility conversation: speed, carbon and circularity, financing, occupant health, and process economics.

Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how the business case for modular timber stacks up against conventional construction when the full picture is considered; how biogenic carbon sequestration, green finance, stranded asset risk and ESG reporting obligations change the calculus for developers and investors; and how the Finch platform is being introduced to Australia by Wildaroo Modular.
