$200m Funding Announced For Sydney Infrastructure & Urben Renewal Projects

The City of Sydney has recently announced that over the next financial year they will spend in the region of $200m on major infrastructure projects. The main beneficiaries will be projects set in the Green Square neighbourhood along with improvements to the environmental performance of the city as a whole and the Light Rail.

The Green Square area is an old industrial estate near the airport which is set to be transformed into a more connected and environmentally friendly community. By 2030 it is hoped that in excess of 61,000 people will live in the neighbourhood, according to the City of Sydney. The works are to be funded from the $1.6 billion 10 year budget for capital works in the city.

Also outlined in the funding is the Johstons Creek plan, urban renewal projects, construction of an aquatic centre, parks and open space improvement, additional funding for the Light Rail, central park improvements as well as major street works.

Lord Mayor Clover Moor said that, “With so many of our residents living in apartments, parks and open spaces become their common backyard. “That’s why we are prioritising planting trees, upgrading our parks and creating more green spaces for people to enjoy.”
