Melbourne’s Tallest Timber Office Building Completed

Jackson Clements Burrows Architects have successfully completed the construction of the tallest mass timber office building in Melbourne. Standing at an impressive 15 storeys, the building is known as T3 Collingwood.

With a total floor area of 18,200 square meters, T3 Collingwood has been meticulously designed to prioritise sustainability. The structure was built using responsibly sourced Victorian oak from Australian forests, resulting in a remarkable 34 percent reduction in embodied carbon compared to conventional construction materials. To enhance energy efficiency and promote a well-lit interior, the building incorporates glazed windows that maximize the utilisation of daylight.

Situated at 36 Wellington Street in Collingwood, the T3 Collingwood building offers a range of amenities including office spaces, retail options, a lobby, a wellness center, a basement car park, and an impressive 186 bicycle parking spots. Additionally, the building features outdoor terraces on the fifth and twelfth floors, providing areas for relaxation and mental respite.

The overarching vision for T3 Collingwood, as stated on its website, is to create a working environment that promotes a greater sense of well-being, fulfillment, and job satisfaction for its occupants. The inclusion of outdoor terraces aligns with this vision, offering spaces for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Recognising the increasing demand for environmentally friendly buildings with socially beneficial design features, project developer Hines has engaged Architectus and Wilkinson Eyre to design another green office tower at 600 Collins Street in Melbourne. Set to be a $1 billion project, the Collins Street development is anticipated to be completed in the first half of 2026.
