Progress Made on Pyrmont Over-Station Development Plans

Advancements in the development of a mixed-use building above Pyrmont Station have taken a significant stride forward, with the completion of the next phase in the planning process following the submission of the Response to Submissions Report.

The envisioned project above Pyrmont Station entails a 31-storey structure situated on the eastern site along Union Street. This building will encompass a versatile mixed-use podium featuring commercial and retail spaces, along with a residential tower designed to complement the station beneath it. The aim is to cultivate a dynamic new precinct where residents can live, work, shop, and unwind.

Sydney Metro's submission of the Response to Submissions Report marks a pivotal juncture in the planning trajectory for the over-station development at Pyrmont, addressing feedback from stakeholders and the community gathered during a recent public exhibition phase.

During the public display of the Concept State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for the Pyrmont Station Over-Station Development, accompanied by an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from March 12 to April 9, 2024, stakeholders and the community were encouraged to share their views. The Response to Submissions Report has now been lodged with the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (DPHI) for evaluation.

A Detailed SSDA will be crafted by the forthcoming development partner for Pyrmont, intricately outlining the building design specifics and addressing design considerations outlined in the Concept SSDA.

The forthcoming station and proposed development in Pyrmont are poised to seamlessly integrate with the adjacent area, while upholding Pyrmont's heritage and enriching its unique character. They will facilitate connections for new communities within the Pyrmont Peninsula and Sydney CBD, offering convenient access to transportation links, retail outlets, commercial spaces, job opportunities, and housing options.

The plans for the over-station development in Pyrmont are in harmony with DPHI's Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy, aiming to elevate the future outlook of the region while safeguarding its heritage, enhancing its amenities, and preserving its local essence.

Sydney Metro is also laying the groundwork for potential over-station or adjacent station developments at Parramatta, Hunter Street, and Sydney Olympic Park, furthering its commitment to enhancing urban connectivity and infrastructure across the city.
