A new proposal for three mixed-use buildings in Sydney's Green Square town center has been submitted. These buildings, previously approved by the City of Sydney, are part of ongoing urban renewal efforts in this former industrial area. The project has been in progress since 2016 when Bates Smart was selected as the architect through a design competition.
While initial approval had been granted for these three buildings (referred to as site 7, 17, and 18) in two separate development applications, changes in the market demand, particularly a preference for larger owner-occupied dwellings, prompted a redesign. The latest application combines all three developments into a single submission. The proposal includes a 160-story building and a 13-story building designed by Tzannes, as well as a 20-story building by Bates Smart, located at 960A Bourke Street in Zetland.
