South Australian Hospital Upgrade Design
)
The South Australian government has unveiled plans for a $74 million upgrade to Noarlunga Hospital in Adelaide's southern suburbs, a project initially announced in January 2023. Wiltshire Swain Architects and GHD Woodhead have been tasked with designing the upgrade in collaboration with clinical teams and consumers. The redevelopment is expected to expand the hospital's capacity by more than 50%.
The lower floor will house a 24-bed mental health rehabilitation facility, complete with therapy areas, lounges, interview rooms, a gym, and courtyards. This addition is seen as a positive development for the community, relieving pressure on Flinders Medical Centre and improving emergency department operations at both hospitals, as stated by South Australian Health Minister Chris Picton.
The upper floor will accommodate a 24-bed in-patient medical unit, allowing individuals to receive care closer to home instead of having to travel to Flinders Medical Centre. Kerrie Freeman, CEO of Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, expressed the benefits of this expansion.
