Women in construction celebrated at 2024 NAWIC Awards in Perth

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) WA Chapter Awards for Excellence recently honoured outstanding achievements of women in the construction industry at a prestigious ceremony held at Crown Perth.

The event showcased a remarkable array of talent, with winners representing diverse companies and demonstrating the innovation, dedication, and inclusivity shaping the sector.

The 2024 NAWIC WA Awards for Excellence recognised women across various categories, including sustainability, leadership, and emerging talent.

Notable winners included Emma Kindness from Laing O’Rourke for Excellence in Sustainability, Amber Townrow from Multiplex for Emerging Talent, and Niamh Murphy from Cailin Mining & Civil, who took home both the Business and Leadership Award and the Crystal Vision Award.

NAWIC WA President Abby Chittick highlighted the significance of the awards, stating, “These awards shine a spotlight on the incredible contributions of women in our industry.

“Each winner and finalist exemplifies the passion and innovation driving a more inclusive, sustainable, and safe construction sector.”

The event featured inspiring speeches from industry leaders, including MC Dicey Bergic and keynote speakers such as Shelley Trew.

Previous award winner Lottie Edwards also shared her experiences, further motivating attendees.

Other notable winners included:

  • The Yaka Dandjoo Team from South West Gateway Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion
  • Bianca Diane Makin from Laing O’Rourke for Achievement in Health, Safety and Social Responsibility
  • Victoria O’Halloran from Acciona as Tradeswoman of the Year
  • Corinne Laura Bass from Electrical Group Training for Trainee, Apprentice or Student of the Year
  • Holly Bird from ADCO Constructions for Creating the Best Project
  • Maria Vermeulen from CPB Contractors for Outstanding Achievement in Construction

The successful event was made possible through the support of numerous NAWIC WA partners, underscoring the industry’s commitment to championing diversity and inclusion.

As the construction sector in Western Australia continues to evolve, the NAWIC WA Awards for Excellence serves as a testament to the bright, dynamic future being shaped by extraordinary women in the field.
