Chia Weng Boon

Geotechnical Design Manager, Gamuda

Dr. Chia Weng Boon is a Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE, MIEAust CPEng) with more than a decade of experience delivering major underground metro and tunnelling projects across Asia and Australia. He holds a B.Eng from Nanyang Technological University (2009) and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford (2013). His professional achievements include the ISSMGE Bright Spark Lecture (2023), the ISRM Rocha Medal (2016), and the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal (2009).

Dr. Boon has held leading technical and design management roles on major design-and-construct infrastructure projects, including the Klang Valley MRT and Sydney Metro West. He currently serves as Geotechnical Design Manager at Gamuda Engineering and is an active member of ISSMGE TC103.

With deep expertise in underground works within dense urban environments, Dr. Boon brings extensive experience in managing complex interfaces, navigating challenging ground conditions, and delivering robust numerical modelling solutions for major city-shaping infrastructure. His practical project experience strongly complements the panel discussion on “Digital Twins: The Future of City Planning and Construction,” where digital engineering and predictive models are transforming how cities are planned, constructed, and operated.
