Dr James Cockayne is the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner. Trained in law, public policy and human rights, James has spent two decades promoting human rights and responsible business practices internationally – from counter-terrorism work in Africa and the Middle East, to advising United Nations leaders in New York, Geneva and Tokyo. Over the last decade James’ efforts have focused on the global fight to end modern slavery, including founding the Global Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, leading the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations study group on trafficking in persons and setting up the United Nations’ knowledge platform on modern slavery. James lives on Bundjalung country in the Northern Rivers.
