Ken McBryde is Gensler’s head of architecture in Australia and New Zealand, where he also assists in the architecture portfolio in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions.

Ken’s design approach is rooted in his innate understanding of construction methodology and innovative materials. His expertise in Design for Manufacture, Assembly & Disassembly (DFMAD) / Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), passive environmental design, and mass timber is not just theoretical-he actively contributes to research projects and serves on design competition juries, solidifying his position as a thought leader.

Ken is a multi-award-winning architect and the recipient of five Good Design Awards and has been closely involved in two Sir John Sulman Award-winning projects.

Ken's architectural prowess extends beyond borders, with extensive international experience in diverse projects. His expertise in Mixed-Use & Retail Centres, including Transit Oriented Design, is a testament to his versatility. Additionally, his proficiency in Building Repositioning / Retrofit / Adaptive Re-use showcases his adaptability in various architectural contexts.

As a thought leader in Modern Methods of Construction (DFMAD / Prefab / Modular), sustainable design, and mass timber, Ken is regularly called upon to speak at conferences, contribute to research projects, and participate in design competition juries.

In 2013, Ken founded the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) in NSW, is on the Australian Board, the Sydney Committee, and is the Country Representative. Ken has lectured and/or tutored at USYD, UoN, UNSW, UTS, UoQ, UTS & UTAS.

Ken was appointed Adjunct Professor of Architecture at The University of Sydney in 2016, and accepted a three-year State Appointment to the Sydney & Regional Planning Panels in 2020.

He is a Good Design Ambassador for Good Design Australia and a Sustainability in Construction Ambassador for Sydney Build.
