Paddy Courtney

National Manager Apprentices & Trades, Frontline Human Resources (Unidex Consulting)
I am committed to driving meaningful change in the construction industry by championing women’s participation, safety, and leadership. In my role leading a national Group Training Organisation division, I focus not only on advocating for women myself, but on empowering my team to actively create environments where women in trades can thrive. I ensure my team are equipped and accountable for fostering truly inclusive site cultures—promoting equitable hiring practices, addressing safety and wellbeing proactively, and ensuring every apprentice, particularly women, has access to meaningful mentorship and clear development pathways. Through structured support frameworks, open communication, and strong role-modelling, I encourage my team to challenge outdated norms, elevate female voices, and intervene early when barriers or biases emerge. My leadership is anchored in building a workforce that reflects diversity, respect, and opportunity, and I have seen the impact this has on retention, confidence, and long-term career success for women entering construction. As an ambassador for Sydney Build Expo 2026, I would use this platform to spotlight the collective effort behind this change—the power of leaders who empower their teams, and teams who in turn empower women to succeed. By sharing our approach and outcomes, I aim to inspire industry-wide action that supports women not only to enter the construction sector but to lead within it.
