Rick Hopkins
Rick Hopkins has spent the last 25 years specialising in Design Management and Technical Leadership on large, complex, government infrastructure projects for Aurecon and Mott MacDonald.
He is currently a Design Director at Sydney Water. In addition to undertaking project work on Sydney’s critical water infrastructure, he has driven the complete re-structuring of the entire design process.
A qualified civil and structural engineer, Rick understands the complex interplay between building structures, services and architecture. He is adept at the process side of design management yet can also dive deep into detail, facilitate complex technical discussions between any combination of disciplines and stakeholders and drive a team toward resolution.
He is comfortable facilitating large design meetings, stakeholder consultations, optioneering and value management sessions, client presentations, risk and safe design workshops and multi-discipline, spatial co-ordination sessions.
He has a deep understanding of the entire design process, from project set up, through design, to assurance, tendering and into construction. He has undertaken this role in every delivery framework including PPP’s, Partnerships, Alliances, EPCM, Managing Contractor, D&C and HC.
Rick is deeply committed to the rigours of quality assurance, recognizing its pivotal role in ensuring project success. He is familiar with the intensive approval processes and Systems Engineering involved in delivering high-quality designs for major Government infrastructure projects including TfNSW, Sydney Metro and Department of Defence.
