Sheena Garcia
I’m Sheena Garcia, a Civil Engineer and Work Health and Safety professional with hands‑on experience across major civil, road, rail, and infrastructure projects.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with engineers, supervisors, contractors, and frontline workers in high‑risk construction environments, supporting projects ranging from rail corridor upgrades and highway works to station construction and manufacturing facilities. My background spans safety leadership, occupational hygiene, asbestos management, rail protection, and work‑at‑heights systems, including work delivered alongside Transport for NSW and Tier‑1 contractors.
For me, safety isn’t just about systems and paperwork — it’s about training that people can understand, remember, and actually use on site. I’m passionate about bridging the gap between legislation, Codes of Practice, and what really happens on the ground. I focus on helping teams build confidence, ask better questions, and recognise risks before they turn into incidents.
At Sydney Build Expo, my presentation “Safety First: Training for a Safer Construction Environment” explores how effective, practical training plays a critical role in improving safety outcomes. I’ll be sharing real‑world insights on what works, what doesn’t, and how training can move beyond compliance to genuinely empower workers and leaders.
I bring an open, down‑to‑earth approach to safety conversations, encouraging honest discussion, shared responsibility, and continuous learning — because a safer construction environment starts with people feeling informed, supported, and included.
