Simon Murphy

Technical Director – Environment, GHD

Simon is an environmental and town planner with over 20 year's experience in town and environmental planning on project across metropolitan and regional NSW. Simon's experience spans from strategic and statutory planning in support new residential suburbs, to leading the preparation of environmental assessments (EISs) for large and complex infrastructure, mining, industrial, transport and energy projects.

In his various project roles Simon has experience working alongside design teams across the full project approvals lifecycle. This includes undertaking constraints analysis to inform project boundaries, identifying statutory approvals pathways, development of DA and environmental assessment documentation, achieving project approval and assisting with approval compliance through project delivery. Increasingly Simon has been assisting with project approvals associated with asset transition and industrial land redevelopment.

Simon graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Science from the University of Newcastle and subsequently obtained a Graduate Diploma Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New England and a Master of Social Science (Environment and Planning) from RMIT. Simon is a Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (REAP) under the NSW Governments REAP scheme (PIA REAP No. 9401) allowing him to p endorse of environmental assessments for state significant projects, as required prior to their lodgement.
