Laurence is the Director, Regional Construction Compliance at SafeWork NSW. He has worked with SafeWork NSW and its predecessor WorkCover since 1994, when he commenced as a member of WorkCover’s initial Inspector Diploma intake. Before commencing at WorkCover, he was a member of the NSW Police Force for seven years.

Starting his working career as an apprentice welder and worked in his trade for seven years; he frequently refers to this workplace experience in informing his current decisions.  

He led the implementation of SafeWork’s first regional construction Directorate in 2020, and prior to this led the Construction and Asbestos Services Directorate in the Metropolitan area. He also led SafeWork’s generalist operations in Northern NSW for fifteen years up until 2018. 

Currently Director to a large team of staff across regional NSW delivering a range of advisory, prevention, compliance, major infrastructure and frontline construction response services. He is part of the executive leadership team within SafeWork NSW and contributes to strategic decisions that help guide the direction of the organisation, and sits on a number of internal committees. 

Laurence has an Executive Masters in Public Administration: Bachelor of Business in Human Resource Management, as well as a Diploma in Injury and Illness: Inspector.
