ASBEC Launches 2026-2030 Strategy: Three Priorities to Transform Australia's Built Environment
The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) has released its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, setting a clear direction for the industry as Australia approaches critical climate and sustainability targets.
Three Strategic PrioritiesCo-designed with ASBEC members, employees, Board, and industry leaders, the plan simplifies focus into three high-impact priorities for the built environment:
Accelerating decarbonisation – driving the transition to net zero emissions across buildings and infrastructure.
Enhancing resilience and adaptation – preparing the built environment for climate change risk.
Transitioning towards a circular economy – rethinking how materials are used, reused, and recycled.
Five Focus AreasTo achieve these priorities, ASBEC will concentrate on skills and capability, technology and innovation, finance and investment, better regulation, codes and standards, and leadership and influence.
A Legacy of Industry LeadershipASBEC has a proud history of shaping policy and research, including landmark publications like "Low Carbon, High Performance," "Built to Perform," and "Unlocking the Pathway"—which identified electrification as the lowest cost, fastest emissions reduction pathway for Australia's built environment.
Recent work on embodied carbon, net zero infrastructure skills, and sustainable housing continues to inform national policy and industry practice.
Collaborating for ImpactASBEC drives change through council meetings, policy forums, market segment committees like Infrastructure Net Zero and the Community Housing Climate Action Network, and advocacy working groups.
